My Moonfly: A Mid-Autumn Moon Cake Gift Box

ShenZhen XiShang Boutique Packing Co., Ltd's Innovative Design Wins Silver A' Packaging Design Award

The design was created by ShenZhen XiShang Boutique Packing Co., Ltd, a team led by Creative Director Peng Chen and designers Chengpeng Zhu, Xiao Xiao, Lei Wang, and Tengfei Hu. The team's inspiration came from the artistic expression of paper carving and the interplay of light and shadow. The design reflects the longing for the Moon Palace and the craving for reunion, themes derived from traditional Chinese poems.

What sets My Moonfly apart is its unique use of a multi-layered 3D paper carving technique to intricately carve the details of pavilions and palaces. The box includes a light in the moon, which beams through the 3D paper carving graphics on the side, creating a play of light and shadow. This subtle yet sentimental experience enhances the festive atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The gift box is made using eco-friendly paper material and 3D paper carving. Special paper with embossing and gold stamping techniques is used to enhance the design. The box measures 242x242x75mm and contains six moon cakes and a box containing forks and knives. Once the contents are removed, the box can be used as a decorative item, with the light creating a beautiful display of light and shadow.

The design process began in Shenzhen, China in June 2020 and was completed in July 2020. The team faced the challenge of creating a packaging design that stood out from others. They overcame this by selecting a brand-new illustration and creating an outstanding interactive experience. The light beams through the paper carving graphics when switched on, showcasing the interaction between light and shadow.

My Moonfly was awarded Silver in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2022. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
